Project Village Conference & Workshop

Preparing for our summer school & festival

The Project Village conference’s purpose was to serve as a theoretical, preparational basis for the summer’s Hello Wood international art camp which focused on villages, especially on the relations among villages and cities. We examined possible surfaces that are able to contribute to the cultural and social reinterpretation of the city-village, centre-periphery relation.

During the conference we were seeking ideas for spaces that can create, rediscover, and reinterpret forms of getting in contact and building connections in a rural context. With tools of architecture and design we aimed to create the basis of such adapter spaces that are able to connect the two worlds, in any given aspect.

Our lecturers presented a small scale specific project: Pécsi Erika (architect, co-owner of Csórompusza, location of Hello Wood summer program), PERIFÉRNE CENTRÁ (Slovakian art organisation), Somoskői Gábor (cultural anthropologist, ceramic artist of Kezemura), Illés Zsófia Szonja (artist, Collective Plant project) and groups of 4-5 students led by architect team leaders were brainstorming and sketching ideas, envisioning architectural creations that could contribute to their needs. On the closing presentation the teams talked about their reflections on the projects.
