Step Closer! 2013

International Summer School & Festival for the 4th time

The fourth Hello Wood camp gave 120 young designers and architects the opportunity to work with the field’s best international minds in order to rediscover the significance of vanishing human connections. The year’s motto, Step closer! summarizes two goals at the same time: to strengthen the bond between people, nature and built environment with the tools of design and architecture (and of course a lot of wood!) and to motivate young creative minds to step out of their urban, modern, digital environment. During one week, at the old manor of Csorompuszta, the participants created 12 installations that were rated by a professional jury on the last day.

Step Closer - creating value for deprived Hungarian villages

Polish Moomoo, selected into the group of 30 best young architect offices in the world by Wallpaper Magazine, was one of those European offices who delegated designers to join Hello Wood creative camp in Hungary’s Csórompuszta as workshop leaders. The buzzword for participating Spanish, Polish, German, Austrian and Hungarian architects this year was CLOSER! In 2012 Hello Wood made installations for small, deprived Hungarian villages to add value to the lives of local communities with the tools of design and architecture. The social architectural interventions made an attempt to help community life. Some installations soothed local tensions, some helped to form a positive local identity. In 2013 the organizers investigated further how architects and designers can take part in community building, how the relationship between people, nature and built environment can make a “step closer” with the tools of design and architecture.
