Építész Mustra – The Hungarian Gathering 2019

Hello Wood’s Hungarian summer school for architecture, Építész Mustra’s third time at the magnificent region of Tokaj

In 2019 carrying on with the format we started in 2017, Hungarian universities could participate with their own project leaders and teams to compete with each other. The aim of the teams was to construct well-prepared, thoroughly designed installations made of sustainable materials, which would be in  long-lasting harmony with the environment. The Tokaj Wine region consists of 27 towns, by 2020 we’ll  have built installations for each of them.

In 2019 we continued the work we had started with more local knowledge and more experience, strengthening our foregoing cooperations. In the course of the preparation semester, universities were about to build an active relationship with the local communities so that the installations would fit the most optimal way in the life of the towns.

After visiting all 10 installations of the 3rd edition of Építész Mustra this year we are more than excited to continue this amazing form of education.

Építész Mustra -1 week of learning while building in the Tokaj wine region

Hello Wood’s third inter-university camp, Építész Mustra, took place in the Tokaji Borvidék from July 5–12. Over 100 students and instructors from Hungarian architecture schools and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts created ten unique wooden installations across seven towns. The installations engage with the region’s built and natural environment and local communities, offering fresh perspectives on the landscape and paths for renewal. The preparatory work, combined design, community collaboration, and hands-on learning.

The program was realized with the support of the Tokaj Borvidék Development Council.

Hello Wood – Hungarian Architecture Festival – Tokaj for the third time

We returned to the Tokaj Wine Region for the third time, with participating students arriving equipped with deep local knowledge and experience. During the semester leading up to the program, the institutions focused on project preparation, ensuring that the installations were designed to respond to local needs and integrate naturally into the life of the region. Once the participating settlements were designated, the teams worked alongside local leaders to select final sites. The resulting installations preserve the heritage of the Tokaj Wine Region while offering a fresh perspective on the landscape.

7 communities 10 creations

This year we focused on new perspectives. Across seven locations, students created 10 diverse installations including lookouts, bridges, and community spaces that blend local history with practical needs. Key works pay tribute to the region’s icons, such as architect Imre Makovecz and the Furmint grape. With professional support from Hello Wood, the program strengthens the link between wine and architecture. These projects are the result of a unique collaboration between universities and the Tokaj Wine Region Development Council, creating lasting landmarks that are now vital parts of local community life.
