In 2015, a group of Manchester locals set out to build a pub using traditional construction crafts and crowdsourced labor. As part of this project, we built an 11-metre-tall, repurposable Timber Tree, whose materials were later embedded into the pub’s structure and design. Strips of wood in varying shapes and sizes – which once comprised the tree’s branches and spiral-like framework – now make up the Pilcrow Pub. As advocates of community building initiatives ourselves, we were happy to take part in this project.
