Cabin Research & Development

The Hello Wood Design and Build Studio is fully devoted to the development of small-scale design cabins. The studio has been developing cabins since 2016/2017 and as a result, has created many experimental prototypes. The latest embodiment of these developments is the so-called ’Kabinka’. Based on its concept the little house has a classic design and due to its nature and humble structure can be built anywhere (on a lakeshore, in a forest, or in a field). It fits in every natural environment organically.

The special feature of developing ’Kabinka’ comes from its flatpack units which facilitate its transportation and enables its assembly without any harmful environmental intervention. The present concept is ideal to live in all year, in every season. A further special feature lies in the mixture of industrial technology and everyday customer functions, which means that the ’Kabinka’ structure is made of panels that are used in hall construction. These industrial technologies are mixed with natural materials and therefore creates a structure that contains both wooden and contemporary materials. The aim of ’Kabinka’ is to react to temperature changes with appropriate wall thickness, and - for instance with a water and bath unit - to provide convenience which is unlikely in the case of other garden sheds on the market. We provide full packages thus creating market leverage with complexity.

The Swedish design aspects determined development directions fundamentally and focused us on developing products with quality materials and clear aesthetics at a reasonable price. Moreover, the customer is also involved in the assembly processes. This is a dominant aspect during the development of ’Kabinka’, namely to create a cabin with ideal focal points that provides construction experience with an appropriate manual and guidelines and exclude tthe costly assembly staff. Its flatpack nature is a basic requirement in the furniture industry since it makes storage and transportation much easier and also enables it to be retailed at a reasonable price. The aim is to create a prototype that is available for a price-sensitive target group and fills in a market gap creating a fast and easy accommodation for a larger number of people as well (eg. children camps, refugee camps, and temporary camps).
