City Signs

As the name suggests, our City Signs are interactive public installations that spell out a city’s name in giant letters. They are colorful and playful additions to the urban landscape, are popular selfie spots among locals and tourists, and can even function as modular furniture.

Lightbox Tree

Our Lightbox Tree stood outside Hungary's national concert hall during the winter of 2016/2017. The decorative LED boxes that comprised the structure were later repurposed as advertising displays for events taking place at the venue, and as such, featured the names of upcoming acts and cultural programs. The tree itself had three entrances and invited visitors of all ages to discover its unique framework from the inside as well.

Timber Tree

In 2015, a group of Manchester locals set out to build a pub using traditional construction crafts and crowdsourced labor. As part of this project, we built an 11-metre-tall, repurposable Timber Tree, whose materials were later embedded into the pub’s structure and design. Strips of wood in varying shapes and sizes - which once comprised the tree’s branches and spiral-like framework - now make up the Pilcrow Pub. As advocates of community building initiatives ourselves, we were happy to take part in this project.

Charity Tree

English

Made up of 5000 pieces of firewood, our first Charity Tree installation was assembled in Budapest’s Erzsébet Square in 2014. Working closely with Design Terminal and the Hungarian Interchurch Aid, our goal was to build a tree that not only brought people together in celebration of the holiday season, but also drew attention to those less fortunate; when the tree was dismantled in January, we donated the firewood to local families in need. The installation, which included a 4-metre-long indoor staircase, also offered a stunning view of the city from its scattered lookout points which resembled Christmas ornaments.

In 2017, we built more Charity Trees in Hungary than ever before. Two 16-metre-tall installations weighing 40 tons each were erected in Óbuda and Kőbánya and a slightly smaller-scale tree was assembled in Kecskemét. Staying true to the original concept, our Charity Trees provided more than 60 families around the country with firewood in early 2018.

Tunnel Through Time

English

2016 marked the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. The Tunnel Through Time was built in Toronto to commemorate the historic event and the 37 565 Hungarian refugees who fled to Canada in the aftermath of the uprising. The installation, which combined elements of the Hungarian flag and Canada's national symbol, the maple leaf, also paid tribute to Canadians and their generosity in welcoming Hungarian refugees into their country.

Butterfly Stage

English

We designed and built this eye-catching, 300 m2 concert venue in the middle of Erzsébet Square for the duration of the Budapest Spring Festival. Inspired by one of Central Europe’s most exotic butterflies, the stage is designed to accommodate a wide variety of acts - from aerial acrobatic performances to classical concerts. What's more, the mobile structure is easily taken down, transported and reassembled at any location.

Sledge Tree

English

We built our very first Christmas tree installation – the Sledge Tree – in 2013. The 11-metre-tall structure was made up of 365 sledges and was on display outside Müpa Budapest during the holiday season. It proved popular among visitors, who could view the uniquely designed wooden framework from the inside, and at night, marvel at its colorfully illuminated surface. Beyond its aesthetic value, however, the installation also conveyed a message of hospitality and community: after it was dismantled, the sledges were donated to the SOS Children’s Villages in Hungary.

Since then, we’ve designed and built variations of the original Sledge Tree in Lenzerheide, Vienna and London. The latter was an artistic collaboration between Hello Wood and Creatmosphere, a UK-based lighting design studio, and served as a teaser for the 2016 Lumiere London light festival. Like its Budapest counterpart, the installation at King’s Cross was made from 365 wooden sledges, and was brought to life with color changing lights and sound effects. The tree - named ‘Let is Snow’ - was also a symbolic reminder of the impact of climate change and the lack of snowfall in the UK’s capital, which has put an end to the age-old tradition of sledging on London’s hills in the wintertime.

Advent Candles

English

Our Advent Candles were commissioned by the Castle Garden Bazaar in Budapest and were among Europe's tallest Advent installations in 2015. The suspended wooden laths functioned as wind chimes and were colorfully illuminated to represent the joyousness of the holiday season.
